Move Starts in Senate For Wage Compromise WASHINGTON, March 20 UP). A behind-the-scenes move was reported on in the Senate today pointed toward a 60-cent compromise on the minimum wage bill. The present legal minimum for workers covered by the federal wage-hour law is 40 cents an hour. A majority of the Senate labor committee has recommended stepping that up to 65 cents immediately, to 70 cents at the end of two years, and to 75 cents in four. A minority of the committee, containing both Democrats and Republicans, is backing an amendment raising the wage floor to 55 cents at first, and to 60 cents in 18 months.

An administration adviser said that if the current effort to compromise at 60 cents is not successful, a motion will be lodged to send the bill back to committee. Man Struck by Car As He Leaves Curb Philip Smith, 60. of Baltimore, received a possible fractured skull early today when struck at Tenth and. Market Streets by an automo bile driven by Millard Petticord, 45, of the 1200 block West Eighth Street. Smith is in the Delaware Hospital where his condition is reported fair.

According to Patrolman John Mul- rine and William Allen, Smith stepped off the curb into the path of Petticord's car, which was making a right turn into Tenth Street. Little, but oh my!
