Singerly Fire Company of Elkton and county paramedic Sex line mix-up blamed on police Bell Atlantic officials said Tuesday it was not the company's fault that a homosexual sex line was mistakenly listed in their telephone book under the heading for a state police drug hot line. Officials said they got no request from state police to remove the number from the book's Guide to Human Services. Bell Atlantic spokesman Ells Edwards said the company did get a request to remove the number under a state police heading, where it also was listed. The drug hot line number appears in the blue pages of the Bell Atlantic telephone book for New Castle County. The state asked that the number be disconnected in January 1997, when it consolidated several of its toll-free numbers.

Police agreed Tuesday that they had sent no request to Bell Atlantic to have the number removed from the Guide to Human Services, said William D. Carrow, state police chief of communications. The number was used to report drug activity. People trying to report neighborhood drug sales through a toll-free number are instead getting an explicit recording advertising homosexual phone sex..
