Burial: Eastern Shore Veteran Cemetery, Hurlock. Contributions: Local Cancer Society SIDNEY LEON KANE 73, died Tuesday of cancer at his home, 5 Anglin Drive, Newark. he was a consultant for DuPont. Mr. Verbanc was a charter member of St.

Helena's and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic churches, where he served on various committees. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Carrcroft Civic Association and was a former finance board member of the United Way of Delaware. His favorite hobby was growing roses, and for many years he participated in the Jackson Perkins Rose Research Test Panel, growing and evaluating new species of roses prior to their introduction into the market. His wife of 56 years, Margaret K. Verbanc, died Dec.

2. Survivors: sons, John A. and Richard both of Wilmington; daughters, Margaret K. Zecca of Telford, and Susan V. Os-bourn of Wilmington; six grandchildren.

Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, St. Helena's Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike. Visitation: 6 to 8 tonight, Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Tal-leyville. Burial: All Saints Cemetery.

to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. George's Cemetery. Mrs. Martin died Tuesday in Christiana Hospital.

MILLS SERVICE: A service for Claire W. Mills, 80, of S. Washington Milford, will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front Milford, where friends may call at 1 p.m.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Milford. Mrs. Mills died Wednesday in Milford Memorial Hospital. JOYCE ANN SHOWELL, 53, of Seaford, died Sunday of an aneurysm in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. Mrs.

Showell was a machinist at the DuPont Seaford nylon plant. She was a member of the United Church of the First Born in Salisbury, Sussex Mass Choir of Seaford, and the Soul Generation Gospel Singers of Seaford. Survivors: son, Terrance Lee Showell of Seaford; mother, Mary Kathryn Showell of Laurel; sisters, Grace E. Mills and Jean O.L. Showell, both of Seaford.

Service: noon Saturday, United Church of the First Born, Robinson Street, Salisbury. Visitation: 7 p.m. to 9 tonight, Lewis N. Watson Funeral Home, West Road Extended, Salisbury. Burial: Green Acres Memorial Park, Salisbury.

PAUL SCOTT WILLEY, 95, of rural Lincoln, died Wednesday at home. Mr. Willey was a trackman for Pennsylvania Railroad, retiring in the 1960s. He was a member of the American Legion. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II.

His wife, Doris Jones Willey, died in 1979. Survivors: sister-in-law, Helen Jones Strahle, and her husband, Jacob Strahle of Milford, both of whom cared for him. Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W., Front Milford. Visitation: 10 a.m.

Burial: Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton. MABEL K. BAER, 90, of Bear, died Thursday in Arbors at New Castle nursing home. Mrs. Baer retired from the Governor Bacon Health Center in Delaware City.

She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Delaware City Senior Center. Her husband, Clarence F. Baer, died in 1963. Her son, Kenneth James Baer, died earlier this month. Survivors: sons, George of Harrington, and Donald and Robert, both of Bear; daughter, Ida Jan-nuizzio of Wilmington; brother, Frank Titus of Shickshinny, 18 grandchildren and 23 greatgrandchildren.

Service: 11:45 a.m. Saturday, chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, North Du Pont Highway, Minquadale. Visitation: 11 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday. Burial: adjoining memorial park.

Contributions: Red Lion United Methodist Church, Red Lion. EVELYN METZ BURCHAM, 98, of Dover, died Saturday in Capitol Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Dover. After graduating from Michigan State Normal College at Ypsilanti in 1920, Mrs. Burcham taught elementary school in Saginaw, for several years. She returned to college and earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Michigan in 1924.

She was active in the Girl Scouts, the American Association of University Women and Shore-wood (Wis.) Presbyterian Church, and the White Shrine Council, Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star, Modale, Iowa. She moved to Dover in 1973, where she was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Dover, and was a former member of the Century Club and the American Association of Retired Persons Dover Chapter. Her husband, Paul T. Burcham, died in 1983.

Survivors: son, Jay F. of Port Townsend, daughter, Julie B. Burns of Dover; sister, Margaret Markham of Orlando, four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Presbyterian Church of Dover, State and Reed streets.

CORA ELIZABETH "LIBBY" MAULL CAMPBELL, 46, formerly of Lewes, died Saturday of heart failure at her San Diego, home. Mrs. Campbell moved to San Diego in 1970. She was a member of the True Light Church of God in Christ, San Diego, where she was former choir president and was president of the Pastor's Aide Committee. John J.

Verbanc, a leading organic chemist in the area of synthetic rubber research, died Fri day in bt. Francis Hospital. He was 84 and lived in Carrcroft, Brandywine Hundred. After receiving his doctorate in chemistry from the Uni versity of Mr. Verbanc Notre Dame in 1938, Mr.

Verbanc became a research chemist in the DuPont elastomers chemical division in Deepwater, N.J. He later transferred to the Experimental Station near Wilmington, where he became the research division head for the elastomers division. During his 40-year career, he was involved in the development and production of numerous synthetic rubber products such as Neoprene, Nordel and Ure-thane-Nordel combinations, used in the production of products such as tires, golf balls, heels for shoes and car seats. Mr. Verbanc held nearly 40 patents.

After retiring in 1978, Survivors: husband of 26 years, Jessie Campbell; sons, Kerwin Maull, Patrick L. Maull, Jessie E. Campbell Jr. and Andre L. Campbell, all of San Diego; parents, Willie and Bebie Singleton of California; sisters, Kathie Fluker and Lynett Gordon, both of California, and Beverly Head of Georgia; brothers, Gary Dunning of Denton, and Eddie Singleton of California; two grandchildren.

Service: was Thursday, Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ, San Diego. NELLIE ELIZABETH LANE CARTER, 78, of Magnolia, died Tuesday of heart failure at her daughter's home in Greeley, Colo. Mrs. Carter had worked at Bryan's Drug Store on Loocker-man Street, Dover, had been a nurse's aide at Kent General Hospital in Dover, and had been a manager at the day-care center on the Dover Force Base.
