District Rains in Semi-Arid Area During Year Greatest In Recorded Weather History ALBUQUERQUE. N. Sept. 29 Ti New cloudburst-fed floods flashed across southern New Mexico today as this normally semi-arid uretor of the Southwest totaled up the year's rains as the geratest in recorded weather history. In the southwest corner of the state, flash floods from the MoroI-Inn Mountains roared down the Gila River, threatened to carry away a steel highway bridge, inundated highways, routed lowland farm families from their homes, and washed hundreds of acres of cotton and farmlands.

In the southeast. Roswell for the second time within a week saw flood waters from the mountain-fed Hondo roll into its suburbs, and expected another inundation by tomorrow. That Pecos Valley city was flooded less than a week ago when rains sent a 40-foot crest rushing dnwn the Hondo. The Hondo jumped 19 feet over-right and passed the 267foot stage today at Riverside, upriver gauging Gilbert T. Stephenson, a director of the trust research department of the Graduate School of Banking, American Bankers' Association, in a letter to Mayor Albert W.

James, has expressed appreciation for the efficiency and courtesy of the Wilmington Bureau of Police in recovering an automobile owned by his wife, which was stolen at noon Friday. Sept. 29 The Duke and Duchess of Windsor arrived today at the duke's "EP" ranch, deep in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, to spend a ten-day holiday.
