Rood of "Meadows on the Brandywine," was named heavyweight champion hunter at the closing of the forty-second annual Bryn Mawr Horse Show yesterday. Champion of the show was Holystone from the farm of Mr. Crispin Oglebay of Gates Mills, ridden during most of the events by Miss Muriel Cleland of Bedminster, N.

J. Holystone was formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. R. R.

M. Carpenter of Dilwyne Farms. Reserve in the champion hunter in the show class went to Andrew, owned by Mr. and Mrs. W.

Plunket Stewart of "Brooklawn," Unionville. Miss Rood took second place with Dublin Venture in the class for heavyweight hunters. Challenge Cap Winner of the Wilmington Challenge Cup, presented by Miss Rood to the winning jumper in the show, went'to Sand Den from the stables of Mrs. Ellsworth H. Augustus of Willoughby, O.

This is the second leg on the cup won by Mrs. Augustus. Chatter Chat, from the Augustus stables, won the champion jumper event in 1936. Mrs. Dorothy White of New York, who was the guest of Miss Rood for the show, took second place a class for jumpers with her Dancing Partner.

Randies Pride and Lincoln, from the stables of Mrs. C. V. Whitney captured both first and second places in the Melbrook Bowl event. Mrs.

Edgar Scott of Villanova who is well known here, rode both winners in the event. Lincoln, ridden by Mrs. Scott, was second in the Wilmington Challenge Cup event. Andrew, chestnut gelding owned by Mr. and Mrs.

Stewart, was named the best local hunter and champion middleweight hunter of the show yesterday as well as the reserve champion for the whole show in the champion class for the R. Penn Smith Memorial Cup. Miss Averill Penn Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, escaped injury when she fell from her mount, Gay Queen, in the Melbrook Bowl class.

Mr. Oglebay's hunt team, which included Holystone, took a leg on the Fourth Hunt Team Challenge Cup. Holystone also was named champion lightweight hunter, winning the Woodcrest Challenge trophy. Variety Shower For Recent Bride A surprise variety shower was given recently for Mrs. John Tid-well at the home of her grandfather.
