NEWS JOURNAL WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1 12, 2003 OBITUARIES Charles L. Scott Age 70, of Elkton, MD, died Monday, March Mr. Scott was retired from the University of Delaware, Newark, DE. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Mr.

Scott was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1295, Middletown, DE. Survivors, Hamilton, include his Fay siblings, Greenplate, both of Newark, DE, Helen Bell, Harrington, DE, and William Scott, Rising Sun, MD; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, March 14, 2003, at HICKS HOME FOR FUNERALS, 103 W. Stockton Elkton, MD. Visitation will begin at 12:30 pm.

Richard Brian Smagala Age 50 of Wilmington, DE passed away at his home, comforted and surrounded by his wife and family, on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 after an heroic fight against pancreatic cancer. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1971 and was employed for over 31 years by Ralph Paul as general manager for Colony North Apartments, Chateau Orleans Apartments and Fox Valley Shops. Richard was an active member of the Delaware Apartment Association, where he served on the board of directors. He enjoyed riding his Harley with his brother, Bob and his son, David.

He also enjoyed snorkeling, scuba diving and vacationing at Mile Marker 23, Key West, FL. Richard had an extraordinary depth of warmth, compassion, intelligence, spirit and knowledge, which his life was all about. Family and friends were top priorities in Richard's life and were an unending source of love and support. Richard's greatest joy was his family who will lovingly remember him as a devoted husband and dad. Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Patti; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Anthony Saufley; 2 sons, David and Christopher; his mother, Pauline K.

Smagala; his younger identical twin brother, Robert Smagala with whom he worked side by side for 30 years, and his wife Patty; 3 other brothers, William Smagala and his wife, Barbara, Edward H. Smagala, Jr. and Brian Smagala his wife, Diane; 4 sisters, a Joan McIntyre and her husband, Jimmy, Diane Jackson and her husband, Jeff, Michelle Smagala and Lorrie Webb and her husband, Will; his half Paula Prickett and her husband, Grady; his motherin-law, Vivian West; and In in-laws, Linda and Jimmy Irvin, Robin Pokoy and John West; 8 nieces; and 6 nephews. He was preceded in death in 1998 by his father, Edward H. Smagala, Sr.

A viewing will be held from 7-9 pm on Thursday, March 13 at the MCCRERY FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville (Rt.202 south of Silverside where the funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Friday, March 14, followed by interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park. Beth Shalom, 18th Baynard Leland E. Spayed, age 82, died on Friday, March 7, 2003 in the VA Hospital. Ruth V. Spayd, age 83, died on Saturday, March 8, 2003 in the Christiana Hospital. Mr.

Spayd was an accountant for the Chrysler Corporation and was a Navy veteran of WWII. Mrs. Spayd was a homemaker. They are survived by their sons: Lee, Jr. and Larry F.

both of Newark; grandchildren, Paul, Darren, Michael, Christopher, Samuel, Bret Thomas, and Laura Lee; 4 great grandchildren; and former daughters-inlaw, Susan Spayd, Nancy Fida, Betty McMillan. Ben was born in Claymont, DE to the late Theodore Benjamin and Sallie E. (Heckler) Streaker Sr. He was raised on a farm in Lisbon, MD before moving back to Delaware in the early 1950's.

He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII, and was a supervisor for Delmarva Power and Light for 30 years before retiring in 1982. He was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren. Along with his parents, 2 sisters and a brother, S. Marie Hulver, Helen I. Streaker and Henry E.

Streaker predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marie (Thompson) Streaker; a son, Richard B. Streaker, Sr. of Middletown, DE; a daughter, Robin L. Streaker Smyrna, DE; 3 sisters, Anna R.

Hartman of Wilmington, DE, Alice M. Barth of Sykesville, MD and Dorothy E. Prasek of Debary, FL; 3 grandchildren, Richard B. Katie and Stephen A. all of Middletown, DE.

Tilghman Newark resident, Marjorie J. Tilghman passed away on Sunday March 9, 2003. Born in Newark, DE in 1907, she was the daughter of Everett C. Johnson and Louise Staton Johnson. Her father was a trustee of the University of Delaware from 1911 until his death in 1926 and also was founder of the Newark Post and the Press Kells.

Her first husband, the late Francis H. Squire, was a member of the faculty of the history department, dean of the College of Arts and Science and dean the university from 1945-1956. Mrs. Tilghman graduated from the University of Delaware in 1928. She did graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania 1929 and 1930.

She taught at Ridley Park and later was member the faculty and chairman of the history department of the Tatnall School. She became the first teacher in DE receive the Freedom Foundation Award. She was the author of the book British Views of the American Revolution and was honored by the American Association of University Women. She received the outstanding teacher award at Tatnall School in 1974. Mrs.

Tilghman was member of Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Society and former president of the Alumnae Association. In 1973 she married Cornelius A. Tilghman, Sr. who was the University of Delaware Rhodes Scholar in 1926. Mr.

Tilghman passed away in July 1998. A memorial service will be held at R.T. FOARD JONES FUNERAL HOME, 122 West Main Newark, DE 19711 at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2003. Interment will be in Welsh Tract Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Antonios Tsakiris Teresa V. Moore (Pinkowski) Age 78, a longtime resident of 6th Wilmington, DE, Brookside Park, Newark and Willow Run made her final move as God called her home on Monday, March 10, 2003. Mrs. Moore had worked in the deli department in the New Castle Farmers' Market for 25 years. She had been a den mother for Cub Pack from 1961-63.

She was a devoted wife to her husband, Lynn Ross Moore, who preceded her in death in 1984. She was actively involved as a homemaker, in raising her 5 children who came after 10 years into her marriage. This happened after she was told she would not be able to have any children. She i is survived by her sons, Jesse of Wilmington and Thomas of Delaware City; daughters, Donna Masters of Wilmington, NC, Phyllis Loveless of Delaware City and Terre Terrell of Goldsborough, NC; sisters, Marie Harris and Carol Lopez, both of New Castle; and her aunt, Sally Rajevich Wilmington; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren with a 5th grandchild expected. A service will be held Friday, March 14 at 11:45 am in the Gracelawn Chapel, DuPont where friends may call at 11 am.

She was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Neil Breslin and Mildred Jones Breslin. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her grandson, James F. Morris in 2002. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Francis E.
